ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB 1969-70
In season 1969-70, Ardrossan Winton Rovers reached the final of the Scottish
Junior Cup - matching their greatest successes in this competition. The club
also reached the semi-final
of the Scottish Junior Cup in seasons 1910-11
and 1933-34.
The photograph below was taken during that season.
One of the most prominent players was the goalkeeper,
Bobby Watson, shown below in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Blantyre
Victoria at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow on 13 April 1970. Blantyre won by two goals
to nil.
Bobby won the international cap below left from the
Scottish Junior Football Association for being chosen to represent Scotland
against Northern Ireland, Wales and the Republic of
Ireland. He was also the Scottish Junior Football Association's Player of
the Year in 1970, winning the trophy shown below right in its inaugural year.
The award was never made again so Bobby is the one and only holder.
