ARDROSSAN SELECT TEAM

ARDROSSAN SELECT 3 - SALTCOATS CALEDONIAN 1
The Saltcoats Caledonian played Ardrossan Select at South Beach on Saturday last (29 March 1896). Select started with the wind behind them and made several tries at the Caledonian goal but without success until nearly half time when they registered two goals shortly after each other. On restarting, the Caledonian made some good attempts but were very unlucky and Select getting away again scored number three. Caledonian again put on the pressure but did not score until just on call of time thus ending a hard game in favour of the Select by three goals to one.

The Select tean was possibly put together for this one-off occasion. The report gives evidence of the existence of an Ardrossan Select team in 1896 but no further documentation has been found.
