A match was played between these two clubs on the ground of the former (probably
on 3 April 1880) and after a well-contested match resulted in favour of the Melbourne
by three goals to nothing.
Ardrossan Castle Football Club was apparently founded in 1880 and played only
one reported game. There was a previous club called
Ardrossan Castle Football Club who played in the first formal match in
Ardrossan on 17 September 1870.
