ARDROSSAN ACADEMY FORMER PUPILS FOOTBALL CLUB 1913

The Scotsman of 21 April 1913 carried the report below.

LEITH AMATEURS 1 – ARDROSSAN ACADEMY FORMER PUPILS 0
Scottish Amateur Cup Final

This Amateur Cup final tie was played at Hampden Park, Glasgow, before a small attendance.   In the first half, Leith, playing with the wind, had more than an equal share of the play and the Ardrossan goal had several narrow escapes.  Leith forced a succession of corners and kept their opponents on the defensive but failed to score.  On resuming, Leith again forced the pace and looked like opening the scoring when Henderson was brought down within the penalty area.  Douglas took the kick and scored.  Up to this point, play had been featureless but the reverse caused the Ardrossan team to redouble their efforts.  Leith, however, gained confidence from the lead but their opponents could make no impression on their defence.

In 1913, Ardrossan Academy Former Pupils reached the final of the Scottish Amateur Cup.  It is thought that they are the only Ardrossan football team to reach a national cup final.
